Body recovered from Lake March 31st, 2010

(Mapleton Twp, ON.) -On Wednesday March 31st, 2010 at about 4:15pm County of Wellington OPP officers responded to a call from some cottagers on Conestoga Lake, Mapleton Twp reporting a large object in the water just off shore.

Members of the Mapleton Fire Department along with County of Wellington OPP Marine Unit and County of Wellington OPP Crime Unit responded to the lake area on Road 11 south, Mapleton Twp. Police located and recovered the body of an adult male about 6 metres off shore.

Coroner Dr. John Ewen attended and the deceased has been sent to Hamilton General Hospital. Post mortem is to be conducted on Thursday April 1st, 2010.

*UPDATE* Post mortem was conducted and the cause of death was found to be drowning. The identity of the deceased is confirmed to be Robert Murray Golbeck aged 59 years of Kitchener. Golbeck was reported missing to the County of Wellington OPP on 29th November 2009 from the cottages along the west side of Conestoga Lake.
